2022-2023 Welcome Back Letter - Schools Open on Tues., September 6, 2022

August 19, 2022

Dear Parents/Guardians:
Summer will soon be over and I look forward to our students returning to school for another year of full in-person instruction. Our first day of school for students is Tuesday, September 6, 2022. School safety will again be our primary objective this year, and we are asking staff and students to follow all health and safety protocols. Masks will be optional; however, we are asking parents to keep their child home if he/she is sick.

Since student achievement remains the number one goal of the district, we must place more emphasis on the academic success of our students. Our 2021-2022 New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA) scores indicate that there is much more that needs to be done. We will be providing an after-school tutoring program for those students (K-12), identified by their teachers, who need additional assistance.  In an effort to enhance student penmanship, a new handwriting program will be implemented in all of our lower elementary schools (K-3). Counseling services will be continued this year in all schools to help with the growing needs of our staff and students.

In our continued effort to provide a safer teaching and learning environment, the Township of Winslow and the Winslow Twp. Police Department have agreed to place a Resource Officer at the middle school.  We have also hired two security guards for the middle school, and two additional security guards for the high school. New security alarms have been installed at the middle and high schools, and we are installing new fire alarms at Schools 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6. We will also reinstitute our Adopt-A-Cop Program in all of our elementary schools.

I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome all the new administrators to our management team.  Ms. Sheresa Clement is now the Director of Curriculum and Instruction; Mr. John Innocenzo, Director of Research, Planning and Development; Ms. Tammy Wall, Director of Transportation; and, Ms. Janice Pfluger, Assistant Director of Transportation. At the building-level, Ms. Christa McBride, Principal of School No. 2; Ms. Lori Kelly, Principal of School No. 4; Dr. Stacy Diggs, Assistant Principal at WTHS; Ms. Dominique Upsey, and Mr. Daron Wright, Assistant Principals at WTMS; Ms. Denise Barr, Assistant Principal at Schools 4 and 6; and, Ms. Lauren Lee, Assistant Principal at Schools 2 and 5.  There will also be 40 new certificated staff joining the Winslow Township School District family.

Our School Board has made a commitment to providing our students with the best educational experience possible. The teachers and administrators will support that goal by doing everything that we can to raise student achievement, creating a safe and supportive learning environment for our students, and improving communication with our parents. Therefore, I am asking that the entire school community work together and support our students. Your child’s success depends greatly on your involvement. I believe that working together will make our schools better and our community more prosperous.

Our teachers and administrators are looking forward to an exciting new school year and we look forward to seeing you in September.

Sincerely,

H. Major Poteat, Ed.D., Superintendent
