2018-2019 Welcome Back Letter - School Opens Thursday, September 6, 2018
On behalf of the Winslow Township School District, I would like to welcome our students back to a new school year. During the summer, we worked hard to update facilities, revise our curriculum and refine our resources to support all students.
On behalf of the Winslow Township School
District, I would like to welcome our students back to a new school year. During the summer, we worked hard to update
facilities, revise our curriculum and refine our resources to support all
students. Since student achievement
remains the number one goal of our school district, we have taken the necessary
steps to enhance our curriculum by purchasing a new Math Series (Go Math) for
grades Kindergarten through Grade 6, and a new Language Arts Series
(Collections) for Grades 7 and 8 at the Middle School. We have also purchased a new online Math
Program (IXL) for our Middle and High School students.
In our continued effort to provide a safer
teaching and learning environment, we have installed new Security Vestibules at
all schools. This new addition will give
all schools the ability to screen visitors, prior to giving them access to our
staff and students. The front entrances
to Schools No. 3 and No. 4 have also been renovated to give the buildings a
more welcoming appearance. Once inside
of our schools, you will see that all ceiling tiles and grids have been
replaced in the hallways, and new LED lighting has been installed. This new lighting feature is more cost
efficient and will give all of our hallways a brighter new look.
This fall will mark the fifth year for our
students to wear uniforms. We believe
the last four years have been successful, however, the Board has decided to
strictly enforce the Uniform Policy this year, particularly at the High School
and Middle School. We ask that all
parents continue to support our Dress Code/Uniform Policy by sending your
child(ren) to school properly dressed and prepared to learn.
I would like to take this opportunity to
congratulate our new Building Principal at School No. 2, Ms. Lori Kelly, and
welcome Ms. Lynette Brown as the new Assistant Principal at the High
School. We are also proud to welcome 37
new teachers to the Winslow Township School District family.
Our School Board has made a commitment to
provide our students with the best educational experiences possible. The
teachers and administrators will support that goal by increasing achievement
for all students, improving instruction, creating a safe and supportive
environment for students, and improving communication with our parents and
community. As we continue to build a
strong partnership with all stakeholders, our mutual objective is to build a
strong educational school system for the children of Winslow Township. I look forward to seeing you in our schools
this year and we thank you for your continued support.
H. Major Poteat, Ed.D., Superintendent
